Brazil’s main stock exchange, B3, is taking a major step toward blending traditional finance with digital assets, as it prepares to launch a real-world asset (RWA) tokenization platform alongside a Brazilian real–pegged stablecoin by 2026.
The initiative is designed to bring blockchain technology directly into Brazil’s existing capital markets rather than creating a separate crypto-native trading venue. According to B3, the platform will initially focus on tokenized equities, allowing stocks to be issued, traded, and settled on-chain while remaining fully integrated with the exchange’s current infrastructure.
By linking tokenized assets to its established systems, B3 aims to reduce fragmentation between traditional and on-chain markets. The exchange says this approach will allow liquidity to flow more efficiently across both environments and could eventually support extended or near-continuous trading hours.
A central component of the plan is a stablecoin pegged to the Brazilian real. B3 intends to use the token as a settlement and clearing tool for on-chain transactions, replacing slower and more cash-reliant settlement processes. The exchange believes a native stablecoin could improve efficiency while maintaining alignment with Brazil’s regulated financial framework.
The move comes after Brazil’s central bank narrowed the scope of its Drex digital real pilot, creating room for private-sector initiatives to take a more active role in tokenized finance. B3’s approach positions blockchain infrastructure as a complement to the existing market rather than a competing system.
Beyond tokenization, B3 is also expanding its exposure to crypto-linked derivatives. The exchange is developing weekly options contracts tied to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, which are currently under review by Brazil’s securities regulator, the CVM. If approved, these products would further integrate digital assets into Brazil’s regulated exchange environment.
Taken together, the tokenization platform, real-pegged stablecoin, and proposed crypto options signal a broader strategy by B3 to modernize market infrastructure while keeping digital assets within familiar regulatory boundaries.
As Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies continue to attract institutional interest, B3’s bet suggests that traditional exchanges may play a key role in shaping how tokenized assets and stablecoins are adopted at a national scale.
