Grayscale’s newly launched spot Dogecoin ETF (GDOG) made its debut on NYSE Arca with a quieter-than-expected start, despite buzz surrounding the first-ever U.S. Dogecoin ETF. Trading volume totaled $1.41 million on day one well below analyst forecasts calling for $11–12 million.
Data from SoSoValue shows GDOG opened with $1.71 million in net assets and 94,700 shares outstanding, marking a modest start for the meme-coin-backed product.
The First U.S. Spot DOGE ETF Hits the Market
GDOG officially launched on Nov. 24, becoming the first spot Dogecoin ETF available to U.S. investors. The product is a conversion of Grayscale’s private Dogecoin Trust, which opened earlier this year for accredited investors.
With GDOG, investors can gain DOGE exposure through traditional brokerage accounts without managing wallets or private keys. The ETF:
- Holds physical DOGE
- Tracks Dogecoin’s spot price
- Uses cash creation and redemption
- Is custodied by Coinbase Custody
- Is administered by BNY Mellon
At launch, the fund held 11.1 million DOGE, equal to 117.58 DOGE per share.
Temporary 0% Fee
Grayscale is waiving fees for:
- The first 3 months, or
- Until assets reach $1B,
whichever comes first. Afterward, the ETF will carry a 0.35% expense ratio.
Analysts Surprised by Muted Debut
The low-volume debut surprised many in the market, especially following more energetic openings for recent altcoin ETFs. Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas had projected $10–12M in day-one volume, making the actual total a fraction of expectations.
Still, analysts note that meme-driven products often attract gradual, steady inflows over time rather than immediate institutional demand.
DOGE Price Sees Mild Uptick
Interestingly, Dogecoin’s spot price showed a slight reaction:
- DOGE traded around $0.152
- Notched a 3–5% intraday rise
- Recorded $1.93B in combined spot + derivatives volume in 24 hours
While not a breakout, the move suggests retail traders were watching the ETF launch closely, even if larger institutional desks remained sidelined.
Grayscale Eyes More Crypto ETFs Chainlink Next
With GDOG now trading, Grayscale is preparing for its next product: a Chainlink (LINK) ETF. The firm framed the upcoming launch as a potential gateway for institutional involvement in:
- Tokenized real-world assets (RWAs)
- On-chain settlement systems
- Cross-chain financial infrastructure
Grayscale says its growing ETF lineup is designed to provide clearer, regulated access to digital assets as mainstream adoption accelerates.
