President Donald Trump has announced his ambition to transform the United States into a “Bitcoin superpower”, vowing to position the country as the global leader in cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation.
Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Florida, Trump urged business leaders and policymakers to embrace crypto particularly Bitcoin (BTC) as a vital tool for economic growth and global competitiveness.
“We’re making the United States the Bitcoin superpower, the crypto capital of the world,” Trump declared. “We’re also the undisputed leader in artificial intelligence.”
Beating China in the Global Crypto Race
Trump emphasized that adopting crypto innovation is not just about technology it’s about national competitiveness. He warned that if the U.S. fails to lead the crypto revolution, China and other countries will fill the vacuum.
“If we don’t do the crypto properly, China will. They’re starting it, but they want to do it. Other countries want to do it. If we don’t do it right, it’s a big industry,” Trump cautioned.
His comments come as China begins to soften its previously strict stance on digital assets, reportedly considering yuan-backed stablecoins to counter the dominance of U.S. dollar-backed tokens.
Recent reports suggest that stablecoin adoption worldwide could generate over $1.4 trillion in demand for the U.S. dollar by 2027, further solidifying America’s influence in the digital finance landscape.
U.S. Bitcoin Holdings Lead the World
According to data from Bitcoin Treasuries, the United States currently holds 326,588 BTC, valued at approximately $33.69 billion, making it the largest government holder of Bitcoin globally.
These holdings, which represent about 1.55% of Bitcoin’s total supply, primarily come from seized assets and criminal forfeitures not direct government purchases.
By comparison, China ranks second with 190,000 BTC, also obtained through similar legal seizures.
The U.S. also dominates corporate Bitcoin ownership. As of November 6, there are 123 U.S.-based companies holding BTC, including major firms like Strategy, MARA Holdings, and XXI. This is significantly higher than Canada (43 companies) and the U.K. (23 companies).
Reversing the ‘War on Crypto’
Trump used his Miami speech to highlight his administration’s efforts to roll back restrictive crypto policies from the previous government.
“I’ve signed historic executive orders to end the federal government’s war on crypto. Crypto was under siege it’s not under siege anymore,” he said.
His executive orders included the creation of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) and a U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile, both designed to integrate digital currencies into the nation’s broader financial strategy.
Trump also credited his administration with restoring trust in the industry after the Biden-era crackdown, which saw major exchanges like Binance, Coinbase, and Ripple targeted by U.S. regulators.
The U.S. Leads in Crypto Adoption
Beyond government and corporate holdings, the United States ranks second globally in crypto adoption, according to the Chainalysis 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index.
Only India surpasses the U.S. in overall usage, but America remains the leading country for institutional participation and innovation. Meanwhile, the U.S. dollar dominates the stablecoin market, accounting for over 90% of total stablecoin capitalization.
President Trump’s renewed focus on Bitcoin underscores his vision to make America the epicenter of digital finance and blockchain innovation. With the U.S. already leading in Bitcoin holdings, corporate participation, and stablecoin dominance, his proposed “Bitcoin superpower” agenda aims to cement the country’s edge over China and position it as the world’s crypto capital in the coming decade.
