FalconX, a leading crypto trading and infrastructure platform, is set to acquire 21Shares, one of the world’s largest crypto-focused asset managers, in a landmark deal that could reshape the digital asset investment landscape.
A Major Merger in the Making
According to a Wall Street Journal report, executives from both companies have confirmed that the merger aims to create a unified firm focused on developing advanced crypto investment products including derivatives and structured funds.
While the financial terms remain undisclosed, sources say the acquisition was funded through a mix of cash and equity, signaling a strong strategic commitment by both parties.
The deal comes at a pivotal moment for the digital asset industry, as crypto ETFs gain unprecedented momentum following the SEC’s recent decision to shorten approval timelines from 270 days to just 75.
Crypto ETF Boom Fuels Industry Consolidation
This regulatory shift has unleashed a wave of activity. Data from Solid Intel shows that 155 new crypto ETF filings have been submitted over the past year, spanning 35 different digital assets.
The surge has drawn attention from traditional and crypto-native firms alike eager to meet growing investor demand for regulated exposure to the crypto market.
Founded in 2018, 21Shares has been a key player in this transformation. The firm now manages over $11 billion in assets across 55 listed exchange-traded products (ETPs) as of September 2025.
It is best known for launching one of the first U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF, in partnership with Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest.
As of October 22, that ETF has attracted $162.85 million in daily inflows, ranking just behind BlackRock’s IBIT, which brought in $210.9 million over the same period. The ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF’s total net inflows have now reached $2.22 billion, helping the overall U.S. BTC Spot ETF market reach $477.19 million in total daily inflows.
FalconX’s Strategic Expansion into Structured Products
The acquisition represents a natural evolution for FalconX, which began as a prime brokerage and liquidity provider before expanding into derivatives and institutional trading solutions.
By integrating 21Shares’ ETF and ETP product expertise, FalconX gains a ready-made framework for issuing regulated investment products without building from scratch.
Raghu Yarlagadda, FalconX co-founder, said the merger will allow the combined company to bring products to market faster and capitalize on the growing overlap between traditional finance and digital assets.
“Bitcoin flows are now happening through what we call traditional wrappers, and that’s a fundamental shift in market structure,” Yarlagadda told the Wall Street Journal.
The move also positions FalconX to expand globally, attract larger institutional clients, and create a broader suite of crypto-backed ETFs and structured investment products.
A Broader Shift in Crypto Finance
As investors demand more sophisticated exposure to crypto from Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs to funds tied to smaller altcoins the FalconX-21Shares merger marks one of the most significant consolidations in digital asset finance this year.
By combining FalconX’s trading infrastructure with 21Shares’ product innovation, the two firms are effectively building a bridge between crypto liquidity markets and regulated investment vehicles a development that could redefine how institutions participate in the next wave of digital asset growth.
Summary
FalconX’s planned acquisition of 21Shares signals a new chapter for the crypto ETF market. The merger unites one of the industry’s top trading platforms with a global leader in digital asset management aiming to accelerate product innovation, institutional adoption, and cross-market access as crypto continues to mature.
