Ripple Labs is reportedly preparing to raise at least $1 billion to fund a large-scale XRP accumulation strategy by creating its own digital-asset treasury, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Summary
- Ripple is planning to raise over $1 billion through a SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Company).
- The move follows its recent $1 billion acquisition of GTreasury, a major treasury management firm.
- Despite the news, XRP’s price has struggled to rally, falling more than 2% in 24 hours.
Ripple’s $1 Billion SPAC Plan
Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that Ripple aims to execute the raise via a SPAC deal, contributing a portion of the 4.74 billion XRP tokens it currently holds as part of the arrangement.
For context, a SPAC is a publicly traded shell company designed to raise capital through an IPO before merging with or acquiring an existing company. In recent years, crypto firms and blockchain ventures have turned to SPACs as a faster, less complex route to access public markets, avoiding some of the regulatory friction of traditional listings.
Ripple has not yet made any official announcements, and according to the report, specific details of the transaction are still under discussion and could change.
If the plan goes through, the new entity would become one of the largest XRP-focused digital asset treasuries in existence.
A Growing Interest in Digital Asset Treasuries
The initiative could position Ripple among a small but emerging group of companies exploring blockchain-based treasury management.
One example is VivoPower, a Nasdaq-listed sustainable energy firm that recently pivoted to build an XRP-centric digital asset treasury. Similarly, Singapore-based Trident Digital Tech Holdings has also expressed interest in establishing a comparable structure though no formal plans have yet materialized.
So far, XRP has not seen the same institutional treasury interest as Bitcoin or Ethereum, but Ripple’s proposed move could change that narrative.
Ripple’s GTreasury Acquisition Could Play a Key Role
The fundraising news comes less than 24 hours after Ripple announced its $1 billion acquisition of GTreasury, a Chicago-based treasury management platform serving clients in over 160 countries.
Ripple expects to finalize the deal in the coming months, pending regulatory approval.
Industry watchers believe that GTreasury’s technology could become a core part of Ripple’s new XRP treasury initiative. Its tools for cash forecasting, liquidity management, risk oversight, and compliance could provide the operational backbone Ripple needs to manage a large XRP reserve efficiently and in line with global corporate standards.
XRP Price Fails to Rally Despite Major Developments
Despite the positive headlines, XRP’s price has struggled to gain momentum. After touching an intraday high of $2.46, the token quickly gave up most of those gains and was down around 2.5% in the past 24 hours.
While rumors of the SPAC deal briefly sparked excitement among traders, market sentiment remains cautious with many waiting for official confirmation from Ripple before pricing in long-term optimism.
