Mega Matrix (NYSE: MPU) has officially made its first move in a bold $2 billion DeFi strategy, scooping up 3.86 million ENA tokens worth about $3 million. The purchase marks a major pivot for the Singapore-based holding company, shifting from its roots in digital entertainment toward directly building influence in decentralized finance governance.
A DeFi Asset Treasury (DAT) Strategy
According to the company’s September 12 press release, the ENA acquisition was made at an average price of $0.7117 per token over a two-week period, using the one-day volume-weighted average price (VWAP) to smooth volatility.
This is not just a one-off buy. Mega Matrix confirmed it will be systematically adding ENA every week, with purchases dependent on market conditions.
“Moving forward and based on market conditions, we plan to systematically execute our strategy by accumulating ENA on a weekly basis, reinforcing our commitment to building the premier treasury reserve for stablecoin governance tokens,” the company said.
From SEC Filing to First Accumulation
The ENA purchase comes just days after Mega Matrix filed a universal shelf registration on Form F-3 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Once effective, this filing allows the company to raise up to $2 billion over the next three years through shares, debt, or warrants.
All of that potential capital, management said, will be earmarked for the new DeFi Asset Treasury (DAT) strategy, with ENA identified as a primary target.
Why ENA? Mega Matrix views governance tokens like ENA as “the equity of stablecoin ecosystems”, providing influence over the protocols shaping the future of money.
Market Reaction: A 15% Stock Surge
Investors welcomed the shift. After the ENA purchase announcement, Mega Matrix stock surged 15% in pre-market trading to $1.94, according to Yahoo Finance data.
That’s a sharp contrast to earlier this month, when news of the $2 billion fundraising plan initially pushed shares down nearly 4% as markets weighed the risks.
