Momentum is being fueled by a surge in both spot and derivatives activity. Daily trading volumes jumped more than 50% to $537 million, while derivatives turnover spiked to $2.65 billion, according to Coinglass.
Interestingly, open interest fell by 1%, suggesting that traders aren’t leaving the market but rather reshuffling positions. This kind of rotation often signals consolidation a reset before the next potential move higher.
Hyperliquid Breaks Into the Big Leagues
On August 26, Hyperliquid reported record spot volumes of $3.4 billion in 24 hours, with BTC and ETH trading pairs leading the charge. That milestone pushed the platform to the second-largest venue globally for Bitcoin spot trading.
Supporting the trend, DefiLlama data shows decentralized exchange volumes on Hyperliquid have already topped $16 billion in August, far outpacing July’s $11 billion. At the same time, total value locked (TVL) has climbed to $685 million the highest level in six months.

From a technical perspective, HYPE is consolidating just above $45, near the mid-Bollinger Band. The narrowing of the bands suggests a breakout may be coming soon.
