Ethereum ETFs are facing renewed pressure as demand cools and major issuers trim their holdings. The result: a wave of outflows that has dragged ETH lower, erasing much of its recent rally.
$422M Outflows in a Single Day
On August 19, Ethereum ETFs recorded $422 million in net outflows, according to data from SoSoValue. This was the third straight day of losses and the second-largest single-day outflow since launch.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Fidelity: $156M outflows
- Grayscale: $122M (plus another $89M across its two products)
- Bitwise: $40M withdrawn
- Others (BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, Invesco): $3M–$6M each
Over the three-day streak, Ethereum ETFs have shed roughly $678M, with on-chain data showing issuers like BlackRock, Fidelity, and Grayscale offloading as much as $160M in ETH.
Price Weakness Adds Fuel
The outflows have coincided with a broader pullback in ETH. After topping near $4,750 earlier this month, Ethereum has slid to around $4,180, losing 10% over the past week.
On the charts:
- ETH is consolidating above the 20-day EMA (~$4,135), which is acting as short-term support.
- The RSI has cooled to 54, down from overbought levels earlier this month suggesting waning buying pressure.
- While the broader trend remains bullish (50-, 100-, and 200-day EMAs are still sloping upward), ETH’s short-term momentum has clearly slowed.
If ETH holds above $4,135, it could stabilize and make another push toward the $4,500–$4,700 range. But a break below would shift focus to the 50-day EMA near $3,690, potentially signaling a deeper correction.
ETFs Still Hold Big Stakes in ETH
Despite recent selling, Ethereum ETFs still control a massive amount of ETH:
- 6.3 million ETH in assets under management
- Equal to 5% of total ETH supply
- Valued at just under $26 billion at current prices
That concentration means ETF flows remain a major force in ETH price action. Continued outflows could trigger more selling pressure if ETH fails to regain momentum.
Bottom line: Ethereum ETFs have entered a shaky phase, with three days of outflows and $678M pulled from the market. Unless ETH stabilizes above key support levels, selling pressure from ETFs could intensify, adding to the short-term bearish tone.
