Swedish digital commerce firm Refine Group is stepping into the world of digital assets in a big way. The company has just unveiled its plan to make Bitcoin a central part of its treasury strategy, marking a significant shift in its financial approach and business vision.
According to a recent press release, Refine sees Bitcoin not just as an investment but as a strategic move to strengthen its balance sheet and better align with web3-native companies. Inspired by the growing number of firms adopting crypto into their treasury operations, the company now aims to make Bitcoin its primary reserve asset.
A $1 Million Move into Bitcoin
To kick off this initiative, Refine Group has raised 10 million Swedish krona (about $1 million) through a directed share issuance, selling over 54.37 million shares at a price of 0.1839 krona each. The proceeds will be used to purchase Bitcoin, effectively planting BTC into the company’s core financial reserves.
But that’s not all.
Starting July 16, the company will introduce a new metric called “Bitcoin per share”, allowing shareholders to track how much Bitcoin the firm holds relative to its stock. This move highlights Refine’s commitment to long-term value creation through BTC accumulation.
Leadership and Vision
CEO David Wallinder explained the rationale behind the bold move:
“Bitcoin’s scarcity and global liquidity make it a powerful complement to traditional cash management, and we look forward to continuing expanding this business area.”
He emphasized that the strategy is not only about financial resilience but also about pushing boundaries in the digital commerce sector, where innovation is key.
The company also revealed that the share issuance was fully subscribed, showing strong investor confidence. Among the key investors is Caldas Capital, led by entrepreneur João Caldas. In fact, existing shareholders representing 20% of Refine Group’s ownership have requested that Caldas be appointed to the board, underscoring his influence and the strategic importance of this move.
Part of a Bigger Trend
Refine Group isn’t alone in this pivot. Earlier this year, Fragbite Group, another Swedish firm focused on gaming and web3, announced its own Bitcoin treasury initiative by issuing $530,000 in new shares.
The trend is clear: as Bitcoin gains traction with institutional investors, more forward-thinking companies are recognizing its potential as a treasury asset and Refine Group is now one of them.
With capital raised, support secured, and a clear strategy in place, Refine is positioning itself not just as a digital commerce player, but as a modern, crypto-savvy company ready for the future.
