In a landmark move signaling its growing commitment to digital innovation, the Michigan House of Representatives has officially designated May 13 as Digital Asset Awareness Day, becoming one of the first U.S. states to dedicate a day to promoting cryptocurrency and blockchain education.
House Resolution 100 Passes with Bipartisan Support
The declaration came through the adoption of House Resolution 100, a bipartisan initiative sponsored by Representatives Jaime Greene and Joseph Fox. The resolution encourages academic institutions, government bodies, and private companies across the state to engage in educational events and initiatives that promote awareness of digital assets and their economic and societal impacts.
“Designating a day to recognize and promote awareness of digital assets will encourage informed dialogue, responsible innovation, and collaborative efforts among stakeholders across the state,” the resolution reads.
By establishing this annual observance, Michigan aims to support public understanding of blockchain technology, responsible crypto adoption, and collaboration across public and private sectors.
Follows Michigan’s Strategic Move Toward Crypto Reserves
Digital Asset Awareness Day arrives just months after Michigan made headlines by joining over 30 U.S. states in exploring Bitcoin-backed reserves. On February 13, Representatives Bryan Posthumus and Ron Robinson introduced House Bill 4087, a proposal that would authorize the state treasurer to invest up to 10% of Michigan’s general and economic stabilization funds in digital assets such as Bitcoin.
The legislation also includes provisions for crypto lending, as long as such actions do not increase the state’s financial exposure. If passed, Michigan would follow in the footsteps of New Hampshire and Arizona, which enacted Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) laws in May 2025.
Leading the Way in Public Crypto Education
While many states focus primarily on regulation or investment, Michigan’s move to designate a dedicated awareness day puts an emphasis on education, accessibility, and engagement. It signals the state’s recognition that mass adoption of blockchain and digital assets must begin with an informed public and clear guidance from government and academic leaders.
A Foundation for the Future
Michigan’s declaration of Digital Asset Awareness Day marks a pivotal step in building a more crypto-literate society. As the state lays legislative and educational groundwork, it positions itself not just as a participant in the crypto reserve movement, but as a leader in digital asset education and innovation.
