Phantom, the non-custodial multi-chain crypto wallet widely used on Solana, experienced a brief service disruption on February 12, according to an update posted on X by the Phantom team.
Temporary Outage and Swift Resolution
The Phantom team acknowledged the temporary outage, requesting patience from the community as developers worked on a fix. Fortunately, the issue was quickly resolved, and the team confirmed that all services were back online shortly after.
While the team restored functionality swiftly, this incident highlights the latest downtime for the popular Web3 wallet. Previous service interruptions include:
- October 2023: An “uptime incident” temporarily disrupted Phantom Wallet services during the Grass airdrop, a Solana-based AI project.
- November 2024: A bug in an update locked out several iOS users due to repeated resets, preventing access to their accounts.
Security and Expansion
Earlier this month, Web3 security platform Scam Sniffer warned about a phishing threat targeting Phantom Wallet users. The attack involved fake pop-ups designed to steal seed phrases, but Phantom has since patched the vulnerability.
Despite occasional technical hiccups, Phantom continues to expand its functionality. Originally launched in 2021 with Solana support, it now integrates with multiple blockchains, including Sui and Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network. Additionally, Phantom has introduced multi-currency support, enabling users to view balances in 16 different currencies.
The Phantom Wallet team’s swift response to this latest outage underscores its commitment to security and reliability. While service interruptions occur occasionally, the wallet remains a top choice for Solana and multi-chain users, continuously improving its ecosystem and enhancing security measures.
