Animoca Brands has announced a strategic partnership with blockchain network Soneium to develop Anime ID, a new decentralized identity (DID) and reputation layer designed for the anime community. The initiative will be led by San FranTokyo, a key contributor to the Anime Foundation and a community-owned cultural protocol dedicated to supporting global anime and manga culture.
According to a press release, Anime ID will be the first DID to integrate Soneium’s Account, Identity, and Reputation (AIR) SDK. This allows users to create embedded accounts, build unique identities, manage credentials, and interact seamlessly with decentralized applications across the Soneium blockchain ecosystem.
The project will be powered by Moca Network, Animoca Brands’ digital identity infrastructure platform, which will deploy its AIR SDK on the Soneium network. This integration aims to provide a comprehensive digital identity solution tailored to anime fans navigating the decentralized web.
As part of the collaboration, San FranTokyo will roll out anime-inspired campaigns and experiences on Soneium. These efforts are designed to bring more anime enthusiasts into the web3 space, allowing them to engage with their favorite culture through fandom, loyalty, reputation, and community recognition.
On the official Anime ID website, the initiative is described as representing “the future of fandom, loyalty, status & rep in anime culture like never before.” Users will be able to contribute to anime culture, earn recognition, and unlock benefits within the broader Anime Foundation ecosystem.
Jun Watanabe, Chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs and a representative of Soneium, emphasized the potential of the anime market:
“By integrating Moca Network’s AIR SDK and Anime ID into Soneium and Animoca Brands launching anime-inspired cultural campaigns, we aim to onboard global anime fans to the blockchain, enabling them to collaborate, create, and infuse the world with emotion.”
Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, also spoke on the broader implications of the partnership:
“We’re not just enhancing entertainment experiences; we’re creating a seamless digital ecosystem. The partnership will empower Soneium users with unified digital identities, bridging anime, gaming, and blockchain technologies.”
This collaboration continues Soneium’s growing involvement in anime-related projects. Most recently, it partnered with YOAKE and OpenSea to release an NFT collection capturing an iconic scene from the anime film The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed by Light, available on Netflix.
The development of Anime ID marks a significant step toward bridging the anime fandom with blockchain technology, offering fans new ways to engage, contribute, and earn recognition within a decentralized cultural ecosystem.
