Circle just made a bold move that could reshape how institutions think about using stablecoins and real-world assets in crypto trading. On July 24, the company announced that its yield-bearing stablecoin, USYC, will now be accepted by Binance as off-exchange collateral for institutional derivatives trading. That’s not just a milestone it’s the first time a major crypto exchange is allowing a tokenized Treasury fund to be used this way.
What Does This Actually Mean?
In simple terms, institutional traders on Binance can now earn yield on the assets they’re using to back their trades. Instead of just parking plain USDC as collateral, they can use USYC which gives them exposure to short-term U.S. Treasuries and collect yield at the same time. That’s a major shift for capital efficiency in crypto.
The whole system is supported by Binance’s banking partners and its custody platform, Ceffu, which acts as the middleman managing these assets. So institutions get the benefits of a traditional money market fund steady returns and liquidity without giving up on trading.
Why USYC?
USYC isn’t just any token it’s a tokenized share of the Hashnote International Short Duration Fund Ltd, making it one of the top digital representations of money market exposure out there. What makes it even more attractive is that it can be quickly converted back into USDC, giving institutions flexibility when liquidity is needed fast.
As Circle’s Chief Business Officer, Kash Razzaghi, puts it:
“USYC’s integration with Binance unlocks new possibilities for institutional capital efficiency. Its near-instant redemption into USDC makes it an obvious fit for modern collateral use in digital markets.”
A Strategic Play
This isn’t just about Circle or Binance trying something new. It’s a strategic response to rising demand from institutions who want both yield and flexibility. Traditional stablecoins don’t offer that your capital just sits there. But with USYC, it works for you.
It also helps Binance stand out as competitors like BlackRock (BUIDL) and Ondo Finance (USDY) launch their own tokenized Treasury products. In that context, accepting USYC is Binance saying: We’re ready for the future of finance.
Native to BNB Chain That Matters
One detail that might fly under the radar but is hugely important: USYC will be issued natively on BNB Chain. That means faster transactions, lower risk, and deep integration with Binance’s own ecosystem. For trading firms that rely on speed and arbitrage, that’s a big deal.
It also signals Binance’s ambition to evolve BNB Chain into an institutional-grade RWA hub, not just a playground for DeFi and retail traders.
Why Now?
Timing matters here. A Financial Times report recently highlighted that tokenized Treasury products have ballooned to $1.7 billion in 2025, with more institutions using them as serious cash management tools not just speculation.
By embracing USYC, Binance is getting ahead of the curve. It’s preparing for a market where yield-bearing, tokenized collateral isn’t a nice-to-have it’s the new norm.
