Injective has taken another major step into regulated tokenized finance after its affiliate, Injective Institutional Services, secured registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a transfer agent.
The registration gives the Injective ecosystem a regulated entity capable of maintaining official securities ownership records, processing ownership changes, and supporting administrative functions such as distributions and corporate actions.
The development also gives Injective a stronger position in the growing real-world asset and tokenized securities market. Following the announcement, INJ rose about 8%, reflecting a positive response from investors.
Injective Completes SEC Transfer Agent Registration
Injective first disclosed in July that it had applied for transfer agent status with the SEC.
At that time, the project did not publicly identify which legal entity had submitted the application. Injective has now confirmed that Injective Institutional Services is the registered affiliate.
The approval moves Injective’s plans beyond the application stage and gives the company an operating regulatory structure that can support securities recordkeeping.
Injective said the move gives its blockchain ecosystem the regulatory and infrastructure capabilities needed to support the growing tokenization market.
The development does not mean that every token issued or traded on Injective automatically becomes a registered security. Instead, the registration applies specifically to Injective Institutional Services and the transfer agent activities it is authorized to perform.
Individual tokenized products will still need to follow their own legal structures and applicable securities regulations.
What Does an SEC-Registered Transfer Agent Do?
Transfer agents play an important role in traditional U.S. securities markets.
Their main responsibility is maintaining the official record of who owns a security.
They can also handle ownership transfers, issue and cancel securities, process subscriptions and redemptions, manage distributions, and support corporate actions.
This role becomes particularly important when traditional securities are represented as blockchain tokens.
Holding a token in a crypto wallet does not always mean that the wallet owner’s name automatically becomes the legally recognized owner of the underlying security.
A regulated transfer agent can maintain the authoritative ownership register while blockchain technology provides a digital representation of the asset.
That connection between blockchain infrastructure and legally recognized ownership is becoming increasingly important as financial institutions explore tokenized stocks, funds, bonds and other securities.
Blockchain Tokens and Legal Ownership Are Not Always the Same
One of the biggest challenges in tokenized finance is connecting an onchain asset with enforceable legal ownership.
Blockchain technology can make transferring assets faster and more automated, but the legal rights associated with those assets still depend on the structure of the underlying security.
For example, an investor may hold a token representing an interest in a security.
The blockchain can record transfers between wallets, while the registered transfer agent updates the official ownership records when those transactions occur between approved participants.
This creates a bridge between blockchain-based transactions and existing securities infrastructure.
Injective’s new registration could allow the blockchain to handle parts of the transaction process while its regulated affiliate maintains the legally recognized ownership records.
Identity Checks and Wallet Allowlists Could Support Compliance
Tokenized securities often require more compliance controls than ordinary cryptocurrencies.
Investors may first need to complete identity verification and other regulatory checks.
Once approved, specific blockchain wallets can be added to an allowlist.
Smart contracts can then be programmed to allow transfers only between wallets that have completed the required compliance procedures.
Transfers to unapproved addresses can be blocked automatically.
This structure allows blockchain technology to retain some of its automation benefits while meeting regulatory requirements associated with securities ownership.
Injective’s transfer agent registration could provide an important part of this infrastructure by connecting approved wallets and blockchain transactions with official ownership records.
Injective Expands Its Real-World Asset Strategy
The SEC registration builds on Injective’s broader efforts to bring traditional financial assets onto blockchain infrastructure.
The Layer 1 network has already been expanding into tokenized private markets and other real-world asset products.
Injective previously partnered with investment platform Republic to increase access to tokenized private-market opportunities.
As part of that collaboration, Republic Wallet added support for Injective assets, while the two companies planned infrastructure designed to support projects launching on the network.
Injective has also experimented with products linked to privately held companies.
In October 2025, the blockchain launched pre-IPO perpetual futures that provided synthetic price exposure to private companies, including OpenAI.
Tokenized Securities Differ From Pre-IPO Perpetuals
Although both products connect blockchain markets with traditional assets, tokenized securities and pre-IPO perpetual futures work very differently.
A perpetual futures contract provides price exposure.
A trader using a pre-IPO perpetual contract can speculate on the value of a private company, but the contract does not give that trader actual ownership of shares in the business.
Tokenized securities can be different.
Depending on their legal structure, a tokenized security may represent an actual ownership claim tied to an underlying asset.
That makes accurate ownership records much more important.
Injective’s SEC-registered affiliate is focused on this part of the market infrastructure rather than simply providing synthetic trading exposure.
The transfer agent can help establish and update records showing who legally owns securities represented through blockchain-based systems.
Crypto Companies Are Building Transfer Agent Infrastructure
Injective is not the only crypto-focused company exploring regulated transfer agent services.
Superstate registered Superstate Services LLC as a blockchain-based transfer agent with the SEC in March 2025.
The company initially planned to use the entity to support its own tokenized investment products, including funds focused on U.S. government securities and crypto-related strategies.
The broader transfer agent industry has also attracted large acquisitions.
In May, Bullish agreed to acquire Equiniti in a transaction valued at approximately $4.2 billion.
Equiniti provides transfer agent and shareholder registry services to thousands of companies and millions of shareholders.
Access to that existing financial infrastructure could help Bullish expand into tokenized securities while maintaining systems already used to manage traditional ownership records.
Traditional Wall Street Firms Are Also Testing Tokenization
Tokenization is no longer limited to crypto-native companies.
Major financial institutions are increasingly experimenting with blockchain-based securities infrastructure.
In July, companies including BlackRock, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Vanguard and the New York Stock Exchange participated in a DTCC tokenization pilot.
The project tested how traditional financial assets could operate inside tokenized infrastructure while maintaining existing investor protections and ownership rights.
Assets involved in the program included Microsoft and Circle shares, the Invesco QQQ Trust, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF and BlackRock’s iShares 0–3 Month Treasury Bond ETF.
JPMorgan also completed an equity token conversion involving shares of the Invesco QQQ Trust during the pilot.
DTCC has said its goal is to ensure that tokenized versions of securities retain the same ownership claims and protections as assets held through traditional systems.
Permissioned Blockchains Could Play a Major Role
Much of institutional tokenization is developing through permissioned blockchain infrastructure rather than completely open public networks.
DTCC, for example, has been using technologies including Hyperledger Besu and the Canton Network.
Permissioned systems allow institutions to control who can participate while still benefiting from blockchain-based settlement, programmability and automation.
Injective takes a somewhat different approach by combining Layer 1 blockchain infrastructure with a regulated affiliate capable of performing traditional securities functions.
If successfully implemented, the model could demonstrate how public blockchain technology and regulated financial infrastructure can operate together.
Why Transfer Agent Registration Matters for Tokenization
Tokenization promises faster settlement, easier asset transfers, greater automation and potentially wider investor access.
However, regulated securities require more than simply creating a token on a blockchain.
Someone must still maintain authoritative ownership records, process legally valid transfers and ensure that securities regulations are followed.
That is where registered transfer agents become important.
Injective Institutional Services now has the regulatory status required to perform these functions.
This gives Injective infrastructure that could potentially support tokenized securities throughout their lifecycle, while the network itself handles blockchain-based transfers and smart-contract automation.
INJ Rises About 8% After the Announcement
The market responded positively to the development.
INJ, the native token of the Injective network, traded approximately 8% higher following the announcement.
At publication time, the token had a market capitalization of roughly $450 million.
Injective is primarily known as a DeFi-focused Layer 1 blockchain and has received backing from investors including Jump Crypto, Pantera Capital and Mark Cuban. The project was also originally incubated by Binance.
Its ecosystem includes decentralized derivatives, trading applications and tokenized asset infrastructure.
The addition of an SEC-registered transfer agent gives Injective another regulated component as it expands further into traditional financial markets.
Injective Strengthens Its Position in Tokenized Finance
Injective’s transfer agent registration represents more than a simple regulatory approval.
It gives the network a way to connect blockchain-based assets with one of the core functions required by traditional securities markets: maintaining legally recognized ownership records.
As tokenized stocks, funds and other real-world assets become more common, this connection between onchain activity and regulated recordkeeping could become increasingly valuable.
The move also highlights a broader trend across the financial industry.
Crypto companies are building regulated infrastructure, while traditional Wall Street institutions are testing blockchain technology for securities settlement and ownership management.
Injective is positioning itself somewhere between those two worlds.
Its blockchain can provide automation and onchain asset movement, while Injective Institutional Services can perform regulated transfer agent functions.
If demand for tokenized securities continues to grow, that combination could become an important part of Injective’s long-term strategy.
