Strategy raised $333.7 million through sales of its MSTR common stock last week but did not use any of the proceeds to purchase additional Bitcoin.
Instead, the company directed the money toward preferred stock repurchases, dividend payments, and its growing U.S. dollar reserve. As a result, Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings remained unchanged at 840,447 BTC.
The decision comes after two consecutive weeks in which the company reduced its Bitcoin position to help finance repurchases of its STRC preferred shares.
Strategy Raises $333.7 Million Through MSTR Stock Sales
According to Strategy’s latest regulatory filing, the company sold approximately 3.46 million MSTR shares between Aug. 10 and Aug. 16 through its at-the-market stock offering program.
The transactions generated roughly $333.7 million.
Rather than purchasing more Bitcoin, Strategy divided the proceeds across several parts of its capital strategy.
Approximately $132.2 million was used to repurchase STRC preferred shares, while another $52.4 million was allocated to STRC dividend payments.
The remaining $149.1 million was added to Strategy’s U.S. dollar reserve.
The company reported no Bitcoin purchases or sales during the seven-day period.
Strategy Uses MSTR Proceeds for STRC Buybacks
STRC remains an important part of Strategy’s current capital management strategy.
During the latest reporting period, the company repurchased approximately 1.39 million STRC shares for $132.2 million through its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program.
Strategy did not repurchase any STRF, STRK, or STRD preferred securities during the period. It also did not buy back MSTR common stock.
Following the latest transactions, Strategy had approximately $653 million remaining under its $1 billion preferred securities repurchase authorization.
Another $1 billion remained available under its separate MSTR common stock repurchase program.
The two programs were introduced under a broader capital framework approved by Strategy’s board in late June.
Strategy Has $2 Billion Repurchase Framework
Strategy’s board authorized up to $2 billion in security repurchases on June 29.
The authorization was divided equally between MSTR common shares and the company’s preferred securities.
The same framework also gave Strategy the ability to sell as much as $1.25 billion worth of Bitcoin if necessary to provide liquidity.
Potential uses for Bitcoin sale proceeds include funding the company’s dollar reserve, paying preferred stock dividends, covering interest expenses, and financing security repurchases.
Importantly, the authorization does not mean Strategy must sell $1.25 billion in Bitcoin. It simply gives management greater flexibility to use its BTC holdings when additional liquidity is required.
STRC Remains Below Its $100 Par Value
Strategy has been taking several steps to support STRC after the preferred security fell below its $100 reference value.
STRC closed Friday at approximately $94.78, representing a 1.03% decline during the trading session. It then slipped slightly further to around $94.67 in Monday premarket trading.
Keeping STRC close to its $100 par value has become an important part of Strategy’s capital strategy.
In June, Strategy CEO Phong Le personally purchased approximately $1 million worth of STRC and said he intended to hold the position until the security returned to par, and potentially longer.
At the time, STRC was trading below $90.
Strategy has since continued using stock-sale proceeds and, in some cases, Bitcoin sales to support STRC through repurchases and dividend payments.
Strategy Bitcoin Holdings Stay at 840,447 BTC
Strategy’s decision to make no Bitcoin transactions last week follows two consecutive weeks of BTC sales.
Between Aug. 3 and Aug. 9, the company sold 1,690 BTC for approximately $108.6 million.
The Bitcoin was sold at an average price of around $64,262 per BTC.
Strategy used the entire $108.6 million from that transaction to repurchase approximately 1.15 million STRC shares.
Following the sale, the company’s total Bitcoin holdings fell to their current level of 840,447 BTC.
During the same week, Strategy also generated approximately $653.1 million by selling MSTR shares.
Of those proceeds, $650 million was added to the company’s dollar reserve, while approximately $3.1 million went to unrestricted cash.
Strategy Sold Bitcoin in the Previous Week as Well
The Aug. 3–9 transaction was not the only recent reduction in Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings.
Between July 27 and Aug. 2, Strategy sold another 1,638 BTC for approximately $104.7 million.
The company divided those proceeds between STRC-related obligations.
Around $52.4 million went toward STRC dividends, while approximately $52.3 million was used for preferred stock repurchases.
These transactions marked a noticeable shift for a company that became famous for aggressively accumulating Bitcoin.
For years, Strategy largely followed a strategy of purchasing and holding BTC rather than selling it.
Strategy’s Bitcoin Sales Ended a Multiyear Pattern
Strategy’s recent Bitcoin sales followed its first BTC disposal since December 2022.
Between May 26 and May 31, the company sold 32 BTC for approximately $2.5 million.
The proceeds were expected to help fund distributions on its preferred securities.
Although the sale was relatively small compared with Strategy’s enormous Bitcoin position, it was significant because it demonstrated that management was willing to use Bitcoin as a source of liquidity when necessary.
That flexibility has become increasingly relevant as Strategy manages its preferred securities alongside its Bitcoin treasury.
STRC Dividend Rate Increased to 12%
STRC’s dividend structure is another factor affecting Strategy’s capital requirements.
Earlier this year, STRC’s annualized dividend rate had climbed to approximately 11.5% while the security remained below its $100 reference price.
Strategy later increased the annual dividend rate to 12% under its June capital framework.
Management has indicated that the dividend can be adjusted as the company attempts to keep STRC trading closer to its $100 par value.
Higher dividend payments can make STRC more attractive to investors, but they also increase the amount of cash Strategy needs to maintain its preferred stock obligations.
This helps explain why building a substantial dollar reserve has become an increasingly important part of the company’s financial strategy.
Strategy Remains the Largest Corporate Bitcoin Holder
Despite its recent Bitcoin sales, Strategy remains the world’s largest publicly disclosed corporate holder of BTC.
The company currently owns 840,447 BTC.
Strategy acquired those holdings for an aggregate cost of approximately $63.36 billion, including fees and expenses.
That translates to an average acquisition price of around $75,385 per Bitcoin.
The enormous position means movements in Bitcoin’s price continue to have a major impact on Strategy’s financial position and market valuation.
At the same time, the company’s recent actions show that its Bitcoin strategy is becoming more closely integrated with its broader capital structure.
Strategy’s Dollar Reserve Reaches $4.80 Billion
While its Bitcoin position remained unchanged last week, Strategy continued strengthening its cash reserves.
The company’s U.S. dollar reserve reached approximately $4.80 billion as of Aug. 16 after another $149.1 million was allocated from MSTR stock sales.
The reserve includes expected proceeds from certain common stock transactions that had already been executed but had not yet settled.
Strategy established the reserve primarily to cover obligations such as preferred stock dividends and interest payments on outstanding debt.
The company’s board maintains control over how the reserve is ultimately used.
Strategy Is Rapidly Building Cash Reserves
Strategy’s dollar reserve has expanded significantly in recent weeks.
The company entered August with approximately $4 billion in its reserve.
It then added around $650 million between Aug. 3 and Aug. 9, increasing the reserve to roughly $4.65 billion.
The latest $149.1 million allocation pushed that figure to approximately $4.80 billion.
At the same time, Strategy continues to use MSTR common stock issuance as an important source of liquidity.
The latest 3.46 million-share sale generated $333.7 million after the company raised approximately $653.1 million from 6.59 million MSTR shares during the previous week.
Strategy Still Has Billions Available Through MSTR Sales
Strategy retains substantial capacity to raise additional money through its at-the-market stock programs.
As of Aug. 16, approximately $21.70 billion remained available for future MSTR issuance and sales.
The company also has significant remaining capacity across its preferred securities programs.
Strategy reported approximately $17.51 billion of remaining issuance capacity for STRC, along with around $1.62 billion for STRF, $2.10 billion for STRK, and $4.01 billion for STRD.
No shares were sold through those preferred-security at-the-market programs during the latest reporting week.
Why Strategy Did Not Buy More Bitcoin
Strategy has historically attracted attention whenever it raises capital because investors often expect the company to use the money to expand its Bitcoin holdings.
This time, however, management appears to be prioritizing its broader capital structure.
The $333.7 million raised through MSTR sales was effectively directed toward STRC repurchases, preferred dividends, and additional dollar reserves rather than new BTC purchases.
The decision does not necessarily indicate that Strategy is abandoning its long-term Bitcoin strategy. The company still holds more than 840,000 BTC and remains the largest publicly disclosed corporate Bitcoin holder.
Instead, the latest filing shows that Strategy is balancing its Bitcoin treasury with the growing financial obligations created by its preferred securities and other financing programs.
For investors, the next question will be whether Strategy resumes Bitcoin accumulation or continues directing newly raised capital toward cash reserves and preferred stock support.
