The group&#8217;s operation, active through <strong>May 2025<\/strong>, focuses on infiltrating corporate and industrial networks to <strong>steal sensitive data<\/strong> and hijack systems for <strong>Monero (XMR) crypto mining<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phishing With a Purpose<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Rare Werewolf deploys highly targeted phishing emails that <strong>masquerade as legitimate communications<\/strong>, tricking recipients into opening attachments laced with malware. Once a user opens the file, attackers gain <strong>remote access<\/strong> to the system, allowing them to <strong>exfiltrate sensitive data<\/strong> such as login credentials and <strong>crypto wallet information<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following this initial breach, the malware installs <strong>Monero mining software<\/strong>, exploiting the machine\u2019s processing power to generate illicit profits.
