The move finalizes Neo\u2019s multi-year transition to its more advanced platform, <strong>Neo N3<\/strong>, and marks the end of an era for one of the earliest smart contract ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Legacy Chain to Cease Operations After Nearly a Decade<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched in <strong>2016<\/strong>, <strong>Neo Legacy<\/strong> has played a significant role in blockchain development, producing more than <strong>14 million blocks<\/strong>, processing over <strong>281 million transactions<\/strong>, and supporting nearly <strong>3 million wallet addresses<\/strong> over its lifetime. However, as technological demands have evolved, Neo Legacy has gradually been phased out in favor of Neo N3, which officially launched in <strong>June 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an official announcement posted on <strong>April 29<\/strong>, the Neo team confirmed that both the <strong>Legacy testnet<\/strong> and <strong>mainnet<\/strong> will be systematically decommissioned:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Testnet Shutdown<\/strong>: Scheduled for <strong>June 1, 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mainnet Shutdown<\/strong>: Scheduled for <strong>October 31, 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAfter the shutdown, block production on Neo Legacy will come to a permanent halt. Users will no longer be able to transfer assets, migrate tokens to other networks, or deploy and develop smart contracts on the network. All core functionalities will cease,\u201d the team warned.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Urgent Call to Action for Users and Developers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Neo has urged all users, developers, and exchanges to <strong>migrate their assets and smart contracts<\/strong> from the Legacy chain to Neo N3 before the final shutdown.
