If the agreement is approved, Andriunin could <strong>avoid additional fines and a lengthy prison sentence<\/strong>, receiving <strong>up to 24 months in prison<\/strong>, followed by <strong>36 months of supervised release<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Plea Agreement Details<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Andriunin and the <strong>U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts<\/strong> have reached a deal that requires him to <strong>plead guilty to one count of market manipulation and two counts of wire fraud<\/strong>. Originally, he faced <strong>over 20 years in prison<\/strong>, but under the plea agreement, his sentence would be significantly reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his <strong>three-year supervised release<\/strong>, Andriunin <strong>will not be allowed to engage in any cryptocurrency-related activities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Forfeiture of Crypto Assets<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the deal, Andriunin will <strong>forfeit all cryptocurrency assets<\/strong> derived from or directly linked to his charges, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>$14 million in USDT (Tether)<\/strong> stored in two crypto wallets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>$9 million in USDC (USD Coin)<\/strong> stored in two additional wallets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Court documents state that while these assets are legally tied to <strong>Gotbit Consulting LLC<\/strong>, Andriunin <strong>controlled the wallets<\/strong> on behalf of the firm. In lieu of criminal forfeiture, <strong>Gotbit has consented to a civil forfeiture of these assets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Legal Implications and Penalties<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal prosecutors estimated that <strong>Andriunin\u2019s charges could have led to fines of $500,000 or twice the amount gained or lost from the offenses<\/strong>. Prosecutors allege these illegal activities occurred between <strong>2018 and 2024<\/strong>, while Andriunin served as <strong>Gotbit\u2019s CEO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gotbit is one of <strong>four companies<\/strong> charged in the <strong>first-ever U.S. criminal prosecution targeting market manipulation in crypto<\/strong>.
