Speaking in a <strong>Bloomberg TV interview on March 11<\/strong>, Gagnon emphasized the critical role of energy access and deregulation in ensuring the sector\u2019s long-term expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Impact of Geopolitical Tensions on Bitcoin Mining<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Gagnon, both the <strong>United States and Canada<\/strong> have relied on energy-driven economies for over two centuries. The availability of <strong>affordable and abundant power<\/strong> has historically fueled economic growth, including industrial and digital sectors such as Bitcoin mining. However, ongoing <strong>trade tensions and tariffs<\/strong> could disrupt energy markets, directly affecting the operational costs and sustainability of Bitcoin mining firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of our sites are based in Quebec,\u201d Gagnon said. \u201cThe largest sites are going to be in <strong>Quebec and Alberta, followed by British Columbia<\/strong>. Ontario, on the other hand, isn\u2019t as attractive due to its weaker energy market and reduced capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these challenges, Gagnon believes that expanding access to <strong>electricity markets<\/strong> and implementing <strong>deregulation policies<\/strong> will be pivotal for Bitcoin miners to continue growing their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strategic Acquisitions Strengthening Bitfarms\u2019 Market Position<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To solidify its standing in the competitive mining industry, <strong>Bitfarms has pursued strategic acquisitions<\/strong>, allowing for better geographical diversification and improved energy access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve transitioned from being <strong>40% based in North America with 6% in the US, to becoming 80% based in North America with 66% in the US<\/strong>,\u201d Gagnon stated. \u201cThis shift opens up a world of opportunities for us, improving both the quality and cost structure of our operations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also pointed out that the repurposing of <strong>energy infrastructure<\/strong> from traditional industrial use\u2014such as <strong>aluminum smelting<\/strong>\u2014to Bitcoin mining is creating new investment opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor the last four or five years, Bitcoin miners have been investing in energy infrastructure that was previously used for industries like aluminum smelting. As the pendulum swings back toward North America, those assets are now in high demand,\u201d Gagnon explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Regulatory Uncertainty and the Future of Bitcoin Mining<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While Gagnon remains optimistic about Bitcoin mining\u2019s future, he acknowledged that <strong>regulatory uncertainty<\/strong> remains a key challenge.
