Despite recent progress, <strong>women remain underrepresented<\/strong> in both crypto ownership and leadership roles. What are the key gender trends in the crypto sector today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Women as Crypto Owners<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A study by <strong>BDC Consulting<\/strong> found that over half of <strong>women who enter the crypto space do so to improve their financial well-being<\/strong>. Women are also more likely to hold crypto <strong>long-term<\/strong> rather than engage in short-term trading. However, barriers such as a <strong>lack of educational resources, shared family budgets, and negative social perceptions<\/strong> continue to discourage female participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Global State of Crypto 2024<\/strong> report by <strong>Gemini<\/strong> highlights a <strong>growing gender gap<\/strong> in crypto ownership. In <strong>2022, women accounted for 42% of crypto owners<\/strong>, but by <strong>2024, that figure had dropped to 31%<\/strong>. Despite this decline, women and men share a similar mindset when it comes to <strong>buying and holding crypto as a long-term investment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, in the <strong>UK, the percentage of female long-term holders is higher than their male counterparts<\/strong>, suggesting that when women do enter the space, they often take a <strong>strategic investment approach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Women in the Crypto Industry<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Gender disparity is even more pronounced when looking at <strong>women in leadership roles<\/strong>. According to <strong>Forex Suggest<\/strong>, out of the <strong>top 50 crypto companies, only three have female CEOs<\/strong>. The most influential women leading blockchain companies include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ola Doudin<\/strong> \u2013 CEO of <strong>BitOasis<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ambre Soubiran<\/strong> \u2013 CEO of <strong>Kaiko<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Simone Maini<\/strong> \u2013 CEO of <strong>Elliptic<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike their male counterparts, these CEOs do not have the same <strong>visibility or web presence<\/strong>, which often leads to less recognition for their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Wage Gap in Web3<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>wage gap<\/strong> remains a contentious issue. According to <strong>Forbes<\/strong>, the <strong>2024 Web3 Finance Compensation Report<\/strong> revealed that <strong>women in Web3 earn 46% less than men<\/strong>\u2014a gap <strong>far wider than that in traditional finance<\/strong>. Additionally, <strong>venture capital funding for women-led crypto startups stood at just 7% in 2024<\/strong>\u2014a notable increase from the previous year but still significantly lower than male-founded startups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, <strong>Pantera Capital\u2019s<\/strong> study presents a <strong>contradictory picture<\/strong>. Their research, based on <strong>502 U.S. respondents<\/strong>, found that in <strong>Web3 finance, women earn 14.67% more than men<\/strong>. This is in stark contrast to traditional finance, where women earn <strong>84 cents for every dollar men earn<\/strong>. The study attributes this <strong>\u201creverse wage gap\u201d<\/strong> to the fact that <strong>women in crypto tend to hold senior-level positions<\/strong>, while <strong>entry-level jobs are predominantly filled by men<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges and the Path Forward<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these findings, the <strong>low overall number of women in the crypto sector<\/strong> remains a major issue. The challenges that women face in <strong>male-dominated industries<\/strong>\u2014including lack of representation, unconscious bias, and limited access to leadership opportunities\u2014persist in crypto as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To bridge this gap, the industry must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Expand education and mentorship programs<\/strong> to encourage more women to explore crypto and blockchain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Highlight and amplify the voices of female leaders<\/strong> in the space.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Promote inclusivity at conferences and industry events<\/strong> to ensure balanced representation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Address wage disparities and ensure equal funding opportunities<\/strong> for women-led projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The crypto industry has made strides toward greater inclusivity, but there is still significant work to be done.
