The pullback comes as weak spot-market demand, rising bond yields, and strong resistance around $65,350–$65,400 continue to limit BTC’s recovery.

Bitcoin has bounced from its recent lows, but buyers have yet to show enough conviction to push the cryptocurrency out of its broader trading range. At the same time, large liquidation clusters on both sides of the current price could make the next move increasingly volatile.

For now, the market is watching two areas closely: resistance around $65,400 and support between roughly $62,500 and $64,000.

Bitcoin Price Struggles to Break Above $65,000

Bitcoin was trading around $64,390 on Binance after reaching an intraday high near $64,736. The cryptocurrency was down roughly 0.5% on the daily candle as sellers returned near the upper end of its recent range.

The latest move follows Bitcoin’s recovery from approximately $62,700 earlier in the week. BTC climbed back through $64,000 and approached $65,000 on Aug. 18, but buyers were unable to generate enough momentum for a convincing breakout.

Trader Lennaert Snyder pointed to $65,400 as an important resistance level keeping Bitcoin trapped within its current range. In his view, losing the previous day’s low around $64,000 could bring the lower end of the range back into focus.

Bitcoin has largely traded between $62,500 and $65,400 since late July, aside from a handful of brief moves outside those boundaries.

That repeated back-and-forth has created a difficult environment for traders. Near the middle of the range, neither buyers nor sellers have established clear control, making the boundaries increasingly important for determining BTC’s next direction.

Weak Spot Volume Is Holding Back the Recovery

One of the biggest concerns surrounding Bitcoin’s rebound is the lack of strong spot-market activity.

While BTC continues to trade around $64,000, spot volume on Binance has remained relatively weak. Lower selling activity could suggest that sellers are becoming exhausted, but weak volume also means there is limited evidence of aggressive buying.

The difference between futures and spot-market activity highlights the issue.

Recent Binance data showed approximately $57.82 billion in Bitcoin futures volume during one session, compared with only about $6.08 billion in spot trading volume.

That pushed the futures-to-spot ratio to around 7.82, meaning futures activity was almost eight times greater than spot-market activity.

Such a heavily leveraged market can make Bitcoin more sensitive to sudden liquidations. Instead of price movements being driven primarily by investors buying BTC directly, short-term moves can become increasingly influenced by leveraged traders being forced out of their positions.

Bitcoin ETF Demand Has Also Weakened

Institutional demand has provided another reason for caution.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $385.2 million in net withdrawals during the week through Aug. 14. That followed roughly $853.5 million of inflows during the previous five trading sessions.

The reversal suggests institutional buying pressure has cooled at a time when Bitcoin is trying to overcome a major technical resistance zone.

ETF outflows alone do not necessarily mean Bitcoin is heading lower. However, combined with weak spot trading volume, they leave BTC with less buying support around $65,000.

A stronger breakout would likely look more convincing if it were accompanied by improving ETF flows and higher spot-market participation.

$65,350 Remains Bitcoin’s Major Resistance

Bitcoin’s daily chart clearly shows where buyers are running into trouble.

The upper Bollinger Band sits near $65,350, almost perfectly aligning with the $65,400 resistance level that has repeatedly prevented BTC from moving higher.

A daily close above this area could be significant because it would push Bitcoin outside the upper boundary of its recent volatility range.

If buyers manage to achieve that, $66,000 would become the next level to watch, followed by the late-July swing region around $67,000.

The middle Bollinger Band sits near $63,895, making the $63,900–$64,000 area an important short-term support zone.

Meanwhile, the lower Bollinger Band is positioned around $62,440. Combined with Bitcoin’s recent lows, this creates a broader support region between approximately $62,400 and $62,700.

A daily close below this zone would weaken the current range structure and could shift attention toward $61,000. A deeper correction could eventually bring the June and July lows around $58,000 back into focus.

Capital Flows Remain Slightly Negative

Bitcoin’s Chaikin Money Flow reading also suggests buyers have not yet taken firm control.

The daily CMF stood at -0.05, indicating slightly negative capital flows. While the reading is not deeply bearish, it provides little evidence that strong accumulation is taking place during the latest rebound.

The 4-hour chart offers a somewhat stronger picture.

Bitcoin remains above its Supertrend support around $63,466, while the Awesome Oscillator remains positive at 951.

However, recent red bars on the Awesome Oscillator suggest bullish momentum has started to slow following the rebound from $62,700.

This puts additional importance on the $63,450–$64,000 region. As long as buyers defend this area, the short-term recovery remains alive. Losing it could increase the chances of another test of the lower end of the range.

Bitcoin Liquidation Levels Could Trigger the Next Move

Bitcoin is also surrounded by large pools of leveraged positions.

The closest major overhead liquidation zone sits between approximately $65,300 and $65,600. Another concentration of liquidity appears around $66,000.

This makes $65,400 particularly important.

If Bitcoin pushes through the level with enough momentum, short sellers could be forced to close their positions. Those liquidations may generate additional buying pressure and potentially accelerate BTC toward $66,000.

The downside presents a similar situation.

A significant liquidation cluster sits around $62,200, while additional liquidity is concentrated between approximately $63,400 and $64,000.

If Bitcoin loses its current short-term support, these lower liquidity zones could attract price and increase volatility.

Liquidation maps cannot predict which level Bitcoin will reach first, but they show why a breakout from the current range could quickly turn into a larger move.

Fed Minutes Could Be Bitcoin’s Next Major Catalyst

Bitcoin’s weakness is not being driven by crypto-specific factors alone.

Broader financial markets have also faced pressure from elevated bond yields and geopolitical uncertainty. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was around 4.686%, while Brent crude remained above $91 amid renewed U.S.-Iran tensions.

Higher energy prices can add to inflation concerns, while elevated Treasury yields can make riskier assets such as cryptocurrencies less attractive to some investors.

Attention is now shifting toward minutes from the Federal Reserve’s July meeting.

Investors will be looking for clues about how policymakers view inflation and where interest rates could head next.

A more accommodative policy signal could improve sentiment toward risk assets, potentially helping Bitcoin challenge resistance again.

On the other hand, indications that rates may remain elevated for longer could keep pressure on BTC and other risk-sensitive assets.

Will Bitcoin’s Support Hold?

Bitcoin’s next major move may depend on which side of its current range breaks first.

A sustained move above $65,350–$65,400 would strengthen the bullish case. Combined with improving spot demand and ETF inflows, such a breakout could open the door toward $66,000 and potentially $67,000.

But Bitcoin still lacks strong confirmation from spot-market buyers.

If BTC falls below $64,000, attention could quickly return to $63,450 and then the broader $62,400–$62,700 support zone. The large liquidation cluster around $62,200 could become particularly important if that support fails.

For now, Bitcoin remains trapped in a compressed market where neither bulls nor bears have established lasting control.

The $65,400 resistance level remains the key hurdle for buyers, while the $62,500 area continues to act as the broader line of defense for bulls.

Until one of these boundaries breaks decisively, Bitcoin may continue experiencing volatile swings within its established range.

Disclaimer: This content is provided for informational and educational purposes only and should not be considered financial or investment advice.

Bitcoin price slipped back toward $64,300 on Aug. 19 after another attempt to break above $65,000 lost momentum.
