Two senior Democratic senators have asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate the TRUMP meme coin following its dramatic decline from an all-time high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal want the regulator to determine whether the president-linked cryptocurrency was connected to fraudulent activity or allowed insiders to make improper profits while retail investors suffered billions of dollars in losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The request does not prove that fraud occurred. Any formal finding would depend on an SEC investigation and an assessment of whether federal securities laws apply to the token.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Warren and Blumenthal reportedly sent a letter to SEC Chair Paul Atkins raising concerns about the structure, promotion and financial impact of the TRUMP meme coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lawmakers asked the agency to examine whether the project operated as a possible \u201csoft rug pull.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A soft rug pull generally refers to a situation in which project insiders gradually reduce their support, sell holdings or extract value over time rather than abandoning the cryptocurrency in a single sudden move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The senators also questioned whether people connected to the project received improper financial benefits while ordinary investors faced significant losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their request asks the SEC to investigate the matter, but it does not establish that the token\u2019s creators or promoters violated the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agency would need to examine the coin\u2019s launch, ownership structure, marketing, distribution and trading activity before determining whether any enforcement action is appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The senators highlighted the large number of investors who lost money after purchasing the Solana-based token.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to data cited from blockchain analytics firm Nansen, approximately 988,905 of the 1.48 million wallets that bought TRUMP were holding losses by the end of June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those wallets reportedly suffered combined losses of around $3.81 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When market interest fades, prices can fall rapidly, leaving later buyers with substantial losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The TRUMP coin\u2019s collapse has now become part of a wider debate over investor protection, political influence and the regulation of speculative digital assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The call for an SEC investigation comes as lawmakers remain divided over the CLARITY Act, a major cryptocurrency market structure bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proposed legislation is intended to clarify how digital assets should be regulated in the United States and how oversight responsibilities should be divided among federal agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
