According to its latest disclosures, <strong>Bitdeer Technologies Group<\/strong> reported a total hashrate under management of 71 exahashes per second by the end of December, a level that could place it ahead of <strong>MARA Holdings Inc.<\/strong> in overall mining capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bitdeer\u2019s reported figure includes 55.2 EH\/s dedicated to its own self-mining operations, with the remainder coming from equipment hosted for third-party clients. By comparison, MARA currently lists an energized hashrate of 61.7 EH\/s on its official website. While the two companies use slightly different metrics, the headline numbers highlight just how close the race has become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Bitdeer closed the gap<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>MARA has been the clear leader among publicly traded miners since mid-2023, growing its self-generated hashrate from under 20 EH\/s to more than 60 EH\/s by September 2025. Bitdeer, however, has scaled at an even faster pace. The company says its hashrate under management grew 18 percent month over month and an impressive 229 percent year over year, representing roughly 6 percent of the global <strong>Bitcoin<\/strong> network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matt Sigel, head of research at <strong>VanEck<\/strong>, noted that Bitdeer\u2019s rapid expansion mirrors a broader industry trend. Like many large miners, Bitdeer has been selling most of the bitcoin it produces to fund a strategic pivot toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Efficient chips boost production<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A major factor behind Bitdeer\u2019s growth is its deployment of proprietary SEALMINER hardware. In December 2025 alone, Bitdeer mined 636 bitcoins, up sharply from just 145 bitcoins in December 2024. This represents a 339 percent year-over-year increase in monthly production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s latest SEAL04-1 chip has demonstrated energy efficiency of around 6 to 7 joules per terahash at the chip level under low-voltage conditions. While this metric is not directly comparable to MARA\u2019s reported fleet-wide efficiency of 19 joules per terahash, it underscores Bitdeer\u2019s focus on improving performance while gradually reducing reliance on third-party mining rigs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Diverging strategies between Bitdeer and MARA<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The two miners are also taking different strategic paths. MARA operates 18 data centers and primarily relies on Bitmain Antminer ASICs. It follows a long-term treasury strategy, retaining most of the bitcoin it mines and currently holding more than 55,000 BTC, the second-largest bitcoin treasury among public companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bitdeer, on the other hand, holds a much smaller treasury of 2,017 BTC. Instead of hoarding bitcoin, the company is aggressively reinvesting into infrastructure. Beyond mining, Bitdeer is expanding its AI and high-performance computing footprint, with construction projects underway at eight sites across Canada, Ethiopia, Norway, and several U.S. states including Ohio, Tennessee, and Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AI and energy reshape the mining landscape<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The rapid growth of artificial intelligence workloads is reshaping mining economics across the industry. Access to low-cost energy and flexible data center infrastructure has become just as important as raw hashrate. Both Bitdeer and MARA are adapting to this reality, but Bitdeer\u2019s faster pivot toward AI and HPC could give it an edge if demand continues to rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Bitcoin mining becomes increasingly competitive, the battle between Bitdeer and MARA highlights a broader shift in the sector.
