EE is making a major push to improve in-home internet performance by rolling out Wi-Fi 7 as standard across all of its full-fibre broadband plans in the UK. The move marks the first large-scale deployment of Wi-Fi 7 by a major British broadband provider and signals a shift in focus away from headline speeds toward real-world home connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The BT-owned operator says the decision is driven by changing consumer priorities. According to research commissioned by EE, nearly half of UK households now rank reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout the home as more important than price or maximum download speeds. Dead zones, dropped connections, and poor performance across multiple devices have become the biggest sources of frustration for customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wi-Fi 7 builds on previous standards by significantly improving capacity, reducing latency, and handling multiple connected devices more efficiently. EE says this makes it better suited for modern households where streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart devices often compete for bandwidth at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rather than limiting the new technology to premium tiers, EE is including Wi-Fi 7 routers across its entire full-fibre lineup. This ranges from entry-level packages offering sub-100 Mbps speeds to higher-end plans approaching gigabit and multi-gigabit performance. The company is also offering optional extenders and add-ons for customers who need wider coverage or more advanced in-home network control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EE\u2019s top residential plans already exceed 1.5 Gbps, with further speed upgrades planned as the operator continues to modernize its fibre network using next-generation passive optical network technology. However, the company says faster access speeds alone are no longer enough if in-home Wi-Fi becomes the bottleneck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To address this, EE has redesigned its Wi-Fi 7 smart hub to be placed openly in living spaces rather than hidden away in cupboards or hallways. The router is paired with built-in management and security tools that automatically optimise performance and help protect home networks from threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Industry surveys have consistently shown that routers are one of the leading causes of broadband dissatisfaction. By making Wi-Fi 7 standard and rethinking how routers fit into the home, EE is aiming to improve perceived service quality and reduce everyday connectivity complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
