The plan, posted on Nov. 27, marks a major step toward compensating users after one of DeFi\u2019s most disruptive hacks of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How the Repayment Plan Works<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the proposal, the $8 million was secured through a combination of <strong>whitehat rescues<\/strong> and Balancer\u2019s internal recovery efforts across multiple networks. Another <strong>$19.7 million<\/strong> in assets linked to osETH and osGNO is being handled separately by StakeWise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Whitehat Bounties<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Whitehat hackers who helped recover funds during the attack will receive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>10% bounty<\/strong> of the assets they recovered<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payouts made <strong>in the same tokens they returned<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All participants must complete <strong>identity verification, KYC checks, and sanctions screening<\/strong> under Balancer\u2019s Safe Harbor Agreement. The foundation says all whitehats involved have already passed compliance, though their identities will remain private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>LP Repayments<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For affected liquidity providers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Repayments will be <strong>pro-rata<\/strong>, based on BPT balances at snapshot blocks taken right before the exploit began.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distributions will be <strong>non-socialized<\/strong>, meaning each pool\u2019s recovered assets stay within that same pool.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payments will be made <strong>in-kind<\/strong>, returning the same tokens that were rescued.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A claim interface will allow LPs to withdraw their compensation after agreeing to Balancer\u2019s updated terms. Any funds left unclaimed after the claim period will be handled through a future governance vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Background: The $128M Balancer V2 Exploit<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On November 3, Balancer suffered a major exploit that drained more than <strong>$128 million<\/strong> across Ethereum and several Layer-2 networks. Attackers took advantage of a <strong>precision-loss bug in Balancer\u2019s v2 pool invariant<\/strong>, manipulating token balances to repeatedly extract profits in minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While much of the stolen crypto was quickly routed through privacy tools, rapid action by whitehats, StakeWise, Certora, and Balancer\u2019s internal teams helped secure significant portions of the affected assets. StakeWise recovered around <strong>$19 million in osETH<\/strong>, and Balancer immediately paused compromised pools to prevent further losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Comes Next<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The new reimbursement framework is now open for community review and will proceed to a governance vote once finalized.
