The data shows a systemic pattern: <strong>30% to 40% of job applicants<\/strong> attempting to join crypto companies may actually be <strong>North Korean agents using fraudulent identities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DPRK Operatives Exploit Global Hiring Platforms<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>International sanctions prevent North Koreans from applying to global jobs using their real identities. Instead, Sabbatella explained, the regime relies on a sophisticated <strong>identity laundering network<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Fake Employees Using Real Identities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>North Korean agents pay individuals in countries like the Philippines, Ukraine, and others to act as \u201cfront people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Freelance Platforms as Hunting Grounds<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Platforms such as <strong>Upwork<\/strong> and <strong>Freelancer<\/strong> are heavily targeted, where collaborators rent out their accounts, credentials, and even passports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd39 <strong>80\/20 Earnings Split<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The North Korean operative receives 80% of income, while the front person keeps the remaining 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Malware-Infected Machines<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During interviews and remote setup, DPRK agents install malware on the front person\u2019s computer, gaining access to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>U.S.-based IP addresses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Corporate systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unrestricted internet access (not allowed inside North Korea)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This enables North Korean operators to appear as legitimate, compliant employees from abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Companies Don\u2019t Notice: \u201cThey Work Well and Never Complain\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once hired, these covert agents typically blend in easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey work well, they work a lot, and they never complain,\u201d Sabbatella said. Their high performance makes them appear reliable, reducing suspicion while gradually increasing access to sensitive internal systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This long-term infiltration gives North Korean cyber units the opportunity to steal private keys, access internal infrastructure, and carry out major financial thefts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Massive Crypto Theft Funds Nuclear Weapons Programs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to U.S. Treasury data from November, <strong>North Korea has stolen more than $3 billion in crypto over the past three years<\/strong>.
