The hacker behind the Radiant Capital<\/strong> exploit has resurfaced, moving millions in stolen Ethereum through the crypto mixer Tornado Cash<\/strong>, nearly a year after one of the biggest DeFi hacks of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to blockchain security firm CertiK<\/strong>, the attacker deposited 2,834 ETH<\/strong> worth about $10.8 million<\/strong> into Tornado Cash, a platform often used to obscure the origin of crypto assets. The move comes after months of inactivity, making it increasingly difficult for authorities and investigators to trace the stolen funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over $10.8 Million Laundered Through Tornado Cash<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Data shared by CertiK<\/strong> shows the Radiant hacker has been steadily moving stolen Ethereum through a network of intermediary wallets before funneling it into Tornado Cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funds originated from bridge addresses linked to Stargate Bridge<\/strong>, Synapse Bridge<\/strong>, and Drift FastBridge<\/strong>, before being consolidated in an address beginning with 0x4afb<\/strong>. From there, the hacker distributed the assets through multiple smaller wallets, including 0x3fe4<\/strong>, in an attempt to further obscure their path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cThese transactions show a deliberate and layered laundering process,\u201d CertiK noted in its analysis. \u201cThe use of multiple wallets before Tornado Cash deposits makes tracking extremely complex.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The laundering follows earlier activity in August 2025<\/strong>, when the hacker sold 3,091 ETH<\/strong> for 13.26 million DAI<\/strong>, later converting much of it back into Ethereum. The latest Tornado Cash transactions appear to mark the final stage<\/strong> of the laundering cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the most recent transfer, the hacker\u2019s wallets held around 14,436 ETH<\/strong> and 35.29 million DAI<\/strong>, together worth approximately $94.6 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Radiant Capital\u2019s $53M Exploit and Suspected North Korean Link<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The original attack on Radiant Capital\u2019s lending pool<\/strong> occurred on October 16, 2024<\/strong>, leading to losses of roughly $53 million<\/strong> across both the Arbitrum (ARB)<\/strong> and BNB Chain (BSC)<\/strong> networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators from Mandiant<\/strong> later concluded that the breach was likely orchestrated by AppleJeus<\/strong>, a North Korea-linked hacking group known for targeting financial and crypto institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attackers reportedly infiltrated Radiant\u2019s systems using a macOS malware variant called INLETDRIFT<\/strong>, which allowed them to gain control of three out of eleven signer permissions<\/strong> within the project\u2019s multi-signature wallet<\/strong>. This access enabled them to replace the lending pool\u2019s implementation contract<\/strong>, draining funds directly from user deposits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the theft, the hackers converted the stolen assets into 21,957 ETH<\/strong> \u2014 worth $53 million at the time \u2014 and managed to nearly double the value<\/strong> of their holdings to around $94 million<\/strong> through strategic trades and rising ETH prices over the following months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInstead of immediately cashing out, the hacker held the stolen ETH for nearly ten months, profiting from Ethereum\u2019s price rally,\u201d CertiK\u2019s post-mortem added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This was not Radiant\u2019s first security breach. Earlier in 2024, the protocol had suffered a smaller $4.5 million flash loan attack<\/strong>, exposing vulnerabilities in its lending mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recovery Efforts Continue, but Prospects Remain Slim<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Over the past year, Radiant Capital<\/strong> has worked with the FBI<\/strong>, Chainalysis<\/strong>, and Web3 security groups such as SEAL911<\/strong> and ZeroShadow<\/strong> to track and recover the stolen funds. However, the recent Tornado Cash transfers have significantly reduced the likelihood of retrieval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mixers like Tornado Cash blend crypto from multiple users, making it nearly impossible to distinguish between legitimate and illicit funds once deposited. The protocol itself was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department\u2019s OFAC<\/strong> in 2022 for facilitating money laundering tied to North Korea\u2019s cyber operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery Tornado Cash deposit effectively erases a trail of accountability,\u201d said one investigator familiar with the case. \u201cThis move almost guarantees the Radiant hacker walks away clean.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
