Version <strong>0.14.0<\/strong> is set to go live on <strong>September 1<\/strong>, bringing a wave of improvements including <strong>decentralized sequencing, pre-confirmations, and a new fee market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The upgrade, approved by community vote and confirmed in an Aug. 18 post on X, promises faster transaction confirmations, lower costs, and stronger decentralization all critical steps in Starknet\u2019s long-term roadmap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Decentralized Sequencing and Pre-Confirmations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the heart of v0.14.0 is the introduction of <strong>decentralized sequencing<\/strong>. Instead of relying on a single sequencer, the network will rotate among multiple independent sequencers using <strong>Tendermint consensus<\/strong>. This design strengthens censorship resistance, ensures fair ordering of transactions, and increases fault tolerance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To enhance user experience, the update also adds <strong>\u201cpre-confirmations\u201d<\/strong> a new transaction status that enables sub-second latency. While block times will remain in the 4\u20136 second range, most transactions will now feel near-instant, with results visible in under a second. This is expected to significantly improve usability during periods of high network traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fee Market and Technical Enhancements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Starknet\u2019s new fee market takes inspiration from <strong>Ethereum\u2019s EIP-1559<\/strong> model. Fees will be set in <strong>FRI<\/strong>, establishing a predictable base price for layer-2 gas and reducing dependence on Ethereum gas prices. This shift makes costs more stable and easier to forecast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other technical improvements include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Updated mempool architecture<\/strong> for smoother performance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New transaction statuses<\/strong> in RPC 0.9.0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multi-block processing<\/strong> to speed up proving efficiency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Although <strong>StarkWare<\/strong> will still oversee sequencing in this version, the roadmap shows gradual steps toward <strong>full decentralization<\/strong> in future releases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The upgrade will require a brief <strong>15-minute network pause<\/strong> during migration, during which transactions will be temporarily halted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ecosystem Growth Ahead of the Upgrade<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The upgrade follows a busy summer for the Starknet ecosystem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Extended DEX<\/strong> launched on Aug. 12, offering perpetual trading with 50+ pairs and leverage up to 100x.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The community voted on <strong>SNIP-31<\/strong>, a proposal to enable <strong>Bitcoin staking<\/strong> via tokenized assets like WBTC and tBTC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In July, Starknet shifted to <strong>STRK as the sole gas token<\/strong>, rolled out its fee market, and improved block times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These developments reflect Starknet\u2019s broader mission: to push <strong>scalability, decentralization, and adoption<\/strong> within the Ethereum rollup ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Outlook<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With v0.14.0, Starknet is tackling two of the biggest challenges for Ethereum rollups: <strong>speed and decentralization<\/strong>.
