It has implications for the local currency,\u201d Asiama admitted, noting that many citizens are already using crypto for regular payments.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Despite the lack of regulation, cryptocurrency is already finding its place in Ghana\u2019s economy. From small businesses to cross-border traders, more people are turning to digital assets for everything from payments to investment. After falling 25% in value, it\u2019s since rebounded by 48%<\/strong> over the past year making it one of the best-performing fiat currencies<\/strong> globally. Still, Asiama sees the rise of crypto as both a challenge and an opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The new framework isn\u2019t just about taxation or control it\u2019s about embracing innovation<\/strong>, boosting cross-border trade<\/strong>, and gathering more accurate financial data<\/strong>. In the long run, it may even support strategic investments<\/strong> in web3 technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So far, South Africa<\/strong> is the only African country with a full licensing process for crypto firms. As of December 2024<\/strong>, South Africa had licensed 248 Crypto Asset Service Providers<\/strong>, with another 56 applications under review<\/strong>, according to its Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ghana doesn\u2019t want to be left behind.
