Earlier this year, ETH\u2019s price was stuck in neutral. Institutional interest was lukewarm at best, and Ethereum-based exchange-traded products (ETPs) were barely drawing any serious capital pulling in just a few billion dollars total and accumulating around 660,000 ETH<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Ethereum network issued 543,000 ETH<\/strong>, nearly matching the demand. In short: supply and demand were balanced, so the price didn\u2019t have much reason to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that all changed in mid-May<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suddenly, spot ETH ETPs exploded<\/strong>, sucking in over $5 billion in a matter of weeks<\/strong>. That demand shock alone started to move the needle but it wasn\u2019t just institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corporate Giants Join the Accumulation Game<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Enter the new players: corporate treasuries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big names like SharpLink<\/strong>, a major player in iGaming, and mining firm Bitmine<\/strong>, have jumped headfirst into ETH accumulation. In fact, their treasuries are now larger than the Ethereum Foundation\u2019s<\/strong> holdings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • SharpLink<\/strong> reportedly holds 360,807 ETH<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Bitmine<\/strong> is close behind with ~300,000 ETH<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Combined, these corporate buyers along with ETPs have absorbed an estimated 2.83 million ETH<\/strong> since May. That\u2019s more than $10 billion worth<\/strong>, and it\u2019s 32x the amount of new ETH issued by the network<\/strong> in the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Hougan believes this massive demand imbalance<\/strong> is the core reason behind Ethereum\u2019s recent rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Institutions Still Have Room to Run<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The bullish case doesn\u2019t stop here. Hougan points out that ETH still has a long runway especially when compared to Bitcoin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Ethereum\u2019s market cap is now about 19% of Bitcoin\u2019s<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • But ETH-based ETPs only hold 12% as much<\/strong> as their Bitcoin counterparts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      This means institutions are still underweight Ethereum<\/strong>, and there\u2019s likely room for billions more to flow in as they seek to \u201ccatch up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      And as ETH-focused treasuries like SharpLink and Bitmine see stock market gains<\/strong> from their ETH bets, others may follow their lead further driving demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      What\u2019s Next? Supply Can\u2019t Keep Up<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      According to Bitwise estimates, ETPs and corporate treasuries<\/strong> are expected to buy another 5.3 million ETH<\/strong> over the next year that\u2019s roughly $20 billion<\/strong> at current prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      And here\u2019s the kicker: the Ethereum network is only projected to issue around 800,000 ETH<\/strong> in that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That means demand could outweigh new supply by nearly 7x<\/strong>. Even though Ethereum doesn\u2019t have a fixed supply like Bitcoin, Hougan notes that short-term prices are still driven by basic supply-and-demand dynamics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      And right now? Demand is dominating<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
